Confronted with an actual menace of navy intervention by the Financial Neighborhood of West African States (ECOWAS), a Nigerien delegation, led by the brand new chief of employees of the armed forces, Basic Moussa Salaou Barmou, travelled to Conakry on 12 August to ask Guinea’s interim president Mamady Doumbouya for “stronger help to face the challenges forward”.
Whereas mediation by a gaggle of Nigerian non secular leaders remains to be happening, ECOWAS is sustaining unprecedented stress on the coup leaders, and each side are searching for allies. Which makes Doumbouya a key participant whose place could possibly be pivotal.
The Guinean has not aligned himself with ECOWAS, however neither has he joined forces with Assimi Goïta of Mali and Ibrahim Traoré of Burkina Faso, each of whom have introduced their readiness to offer navy help to coup chief Basic Abdourahamane Tiani.
